Classroom Behavior Plan!
In order to have a successful, productive classroom environment, we believe that every classroom needs a set of expectations that are the same for every student. In our classes, we have the Kinder-Gator Behavior Plan.
Each student will have an alligator with their name on it. The alligators will be placed on color-coded “rivers” or the The Rowdy Red Swamp according to their behavior. As the behavior changes, the alligator will be moved to a different color “river” or to The Rowdy Red Swamp.
Our “rivers/swamp” are represented by four different colors: The Great Green River, The Uh-Oh Yellow River, The Oooh Orange River, and the The Rowdy Red Swamp.
Each day, the students’ alligators are placed on The Great Green River. Each student will be given warnings before he/she has to move their alligator to a different river/swamp. They will also receive opportunities to move back to The Great Green River. Students will be recognized daily for remaining on The Great Green River. Every Friday, the students who made it to The Great Green River and did not move their alligator down the rest of the week will receive a trip to the Treasure Box.
Here is what each color represents:
The Great Green River - Great day. Student did not interrupt the teacher, teacher did not have to remind student about how to follow the expectations. Child had minimal warnings throughout the entire day for not following the expectations. Child helped out other students and the teacher. Child had a great day!
The Uh-Oh Yellow River: Student is practicing good behavior throughout the day. Had a couple of warnings throughout the day, but corrected behavior. Had a nice day!
The Ooooh Orange River: Student has had several warnings and inappropriate behavior persisted. Student interrupted the teacher, talked out of turn, did not raise a quiet hand, did not keep hands to themselves, and had trouble being a good listener. Consequence: 5 minutes in Time-Out.
The Rowdy Red Swamp-Student was given warnings several times for interrupting the teacher, talking out of turn, not raising a quiet hand, not keeping hands to themselves, not following directions, and for not being a good listener. Had a rough day. I expect a better day tomorrow. Consequence: Time-Out/loss of privilege and letter/phone call to parent.
Consistent misbehavior will result in other consequences, such as, parent contact/parent conference /administrative intervention, etc.
We have very high expectations for the students in our classes. We believe that all children can and will be successful. This includes completing the monthly homework calendar and nightly reading. We also believe it is very important that the students follow and understand the expectations, routines and procedures. Respect is also a very high expectation that we have for all of our students. We believe in showing the students respect at all times. In return, we expect the students to respect themselves, their classmates, and all adults. Communication is the key to success! Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We will have a great year! Please click on the link River Gate Behavior Matrix
